ABOUT OUR PASTOR
The Reverend Doctor Catherine Solomon is a devoted servant of God, scholar and pastor. A native of Camden, New Jersey, she is the eldest daughter of Rev. Norman Solomon and the late Susan Solomon. Rooted in faith from an early age, she was born and raised in the African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church, where her spiritual journey began.
My Story
Reverend Solomon holds an Associate of Arts and Science and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Rowan University, as well as a Master of Science in Criminal Justice and Behavior Analysis from Saint Joseph’s University. Most recently, she earned a Doctor of Philosophy in International Psychology with a concentration in Organizations and Systems from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology. Her research has explored topics including the criminal justice system, disability, andoccupational stress across various job domains.
Her educational background and commitment to service have led her to leadership roles in the mental health, public health, and human services sectors. She also brings extensive expertise in organizational leadership and development across diverse business environments.
Answering the call to preach at age 24, Reverend Solomon delivered her trial sermon under the pastoral leadership of her father, Rev. Norman Solomon, at the Faith Chapel AME Zion Church in Mount Holly, NJ. In 2023, she received her first pastoral appointment to the Mount Zion AME Zion Church in Eatontown, New Jersey. Through God's guidance, prayer, and steadfast leadership, she led the congregation into financial growth and completed numerous building improvement projects. In December 2024, she was appointed pastor of the Duryee Memorial AME Zion Church in Schenectady, New York. Beyond the pulpit, Reverend Solomon has also served faithfully in the Women’s Home and Overseas Missionary Society and the Christian Education Department at the district level.
A passionate preacher and servant-leader, Reverend Solomon is unashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ. She considers herself living proof of God's sufficient grace, and she approaches ministry with humility, strength, and unwavering faith. Rev. Solomon often says, “It is God alone who equips and makes meable.” While she finds great fulfillment in her calling and leadership in the church, Reverend Solomon’s greatest joy is being a mother to her beloved daughter, Lauren.
